Background[]

Memorial City is a mall that was built in Houston, Texas that opened for business in 1966. It has since grown to having over 140 stores and services over the years. The mall is located at 303 Memorial City.

Green's, later located inside Memorial City, originally began as a small game room at the Sears department store located inside the mall with several games (such as Asteroids by Midway and Route 16). When Green's opened up, the games inside the Sears arcade became the full-sized Green's game room (along with many others with the much larger amount of space that Green's had), which would be located in the same wing as Sears. Green's featured a competitive air hockey scene, with several coin-operated tables.

Green’s game room/known games[]

The games operated on tokens, believed to be between six and eight for a dollar.

  • Armor Attack
  • Black Widow
  • Jr. Pac-Man
  • Quantum
  • Rolling Thunder
  • Route 16
  • Space Panic
  • Splatterhouse
  • Super Pac-Man
  • Tac/Scan
  • Zaxxon
  • Pinball and foosball tables

Trivia[]

Green's was in good company with many other game rooms in the mall during the arcade boom, as Quiptar's, Quiptar's II, Games, Games, Games, Celebrity Cafe and Games also existed at the same time. Most of the game rooms, however, suffered the same fate of going out of business when the video game crash of 1983-1984 hit, although Green's was able to survive the ordeal, existing for several more years until going out of business as well several years later.
