Background[]
Malibu Grand Prix was a chain of entertainment facilities situated in the United States where a typical business would have a race track for go-carts and an arcade. Some facilities also had batting cages, water bumper boats and/or miniature golf courses.
The Malibu Grand Prix at 7702 Briaridge Drive in San Antonio, Texas, had the usual race track, bumper boats, two mini golf courses and two arcades full of games (one known as "The Castle").
The business[]
The track remained open until around 2002. Evidently sold and resold, the cars were worn out and in disrepair and the lap timer often didn't work. Then there were slot car tracks where the arcade was and a new track was built on the other side of The Castle which was an oval/figure 8 type shape with multi-cart racing instead of hot lapping. That brought some life back to the place, but eventually the Malibu portion (building) was razed and the track remained until at least September 2015. The last day of operation for this location was after close of business on Monday, September 7, 2015 (Labor Day weekend), citing economic reasons for not renewing its lease. General manager Dwayne Devol posted a farewell message on the official web site of the business, thanking people for their patronage.

Trivia[]
- The Canadian rock band Rush rented the track for recreation after a concert at one point during one of their tours. Each band member purchased 150 tickets and raced throughout the night.
- This is believed to be the longest running Malibu Grand Prix to remain in business since the chain was started in the 1970s, staying open for 37 years.
